The historic market town of Hexham has, at its heart, a 7th century Abbey, two mediaeval towers and the Old Gaol which houses the Border History Museum. The town also boasts excellent bus and rail links and with the vibrant city of Newcastle upon Tyne just 20 miles a superb opportunity to indulge in some retail therapy at the Metro Centre or stroll along the fashionable Quayside. Kielder Water is an easy drive to the north and provides a good range of sporting activites including walking, mountain biking, sailing, windsurfing and a birds of prey centre with flying demonstrations. The Leaplish Waterside park at Kielder has a swimming pool, crazy golf and a children's play area.
